Good Morning music lovers! A Happy Easter to all that partake of the guilt! Such a day this Easter is. When else can you recognize a resurrection AND enjoy biting the ears off a chocolate bunny at the same time? Easter was never one of the big holidays with my family. We would usually have dinner, but no big pressure attached to it. I'm cooking today for the siblings and niece. I have a boat load of food prepped, and I'm still not sure exactly what I'm making. I'm going to wing something involving shrimp. The only real Easter tradition I have adopted is watching the Ten Commandments and making silly comments at the screen on how over acted the whole four hour TV spectacle is. I never understood why they didn't show that movie at Passover instead of Easter. Seeing Vincent Price in full Egyptian gear always gives m a laugh! It's almost as entertaining as watching President Obama sit down to Seder!
As always, the week has been an interesting news week. The trend now is that even though you are watching the news, the stations feel the need to have headlines scrolling across the bottom of the screen as your show is happening. I'm not a good multi tasker, so as I listen and read, the stories all seem to get compressed and confused. So here is my take on this week's news.
After returning from England, President Obama was mourning the death of the Dungeon's and Dragons creator(geeks of the world, unite and take over), PIRATES attacked the memorial and took all of the same sex couples hostage in Vermont. Vermont has decided to legalise same sex unions(I can't wait to see what ice cream flavor Ben and Jerry's come up with to acknowledge this event). Also celebrating this event was Madonna, who promptly dumped her latest 22 year old boy toy Jesus Luz. Hasn't she learned anything from history? It's not easy to get rid of Jesus. He'll just be back in a few days anyway. See what happens when I try to read and listen to the news while peeling shrimp???
So here's some music. The Panics are a band out of Perth, Australia. The band consists of five guys that have been banging the drum slowly since around 2000.Their music is kind of sparse, with no big hooplah. Simple sounds, simple lyrics. This song, titled Don't Fight It has been around for a while, but may be new to most of you. I could see this song beind played during any of those movies made about Jesus as he goes through his stations of the cross(yeah, I went to catholic grammar school). The name of their CD is Cruel Guards. As always, you can just check out the video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t_cK_cIydHY

and a live performance here

It starts a bit slow, but is a nice little song. The subtle little horn section is a fun addition.
How about some celebrity birthdays? Chesire cat and proud Papa Dennis Quaid blew out the birthday candles this week. That guy is hlding up pretty darn well! I wonder if Patricia Arquette had any visions on her birthday? Her movie True Romance with Christian Slater is still one of favorites! Football hero and tea bag entusiast(No, not that kind of tea bag) Dandy Don Meredith celebrated this week as well. I remember him doing those silly Lipton tea ads years ago. TV's Bo Duke hopefully got a touch up paint kit for the General Lee on his birthday. John Schneider is also an example of aging gracefully. I hope Crazy Cooter gave him a phone call! Last but not least, Happy Birthday to Song Of The Week member DJ Jenna! Jenna is an old pal of mine from the restaurant days. I hope her and the recent baby have a great day! Go easy on the almond cookies Jenna and don't complain about the pic I used!
It seems a number of you enjoyed the silly pics I attached last week, so I decided to find some more to attach.
Enjoy the holiday if that's you're thing and have a great week! I'm off to plan a menu now!
